Breffni scores on the double for Dunboyne’s Manning

While Cavan’s footballers have been making plenty of headlines of late having notched two wins in succession, in racing circles there have also been double celebrations with Cavan connections as Breffni Gael – owned by Cavan native and Dunboyne resident Paddy Sheridan and trained by Michael Manning – came home in front twice in a short space of time.

When scoring recently at Sligo, the 7-year-old Milan mare provided Dunboyne’s Manning – now based at Porterstown Lane, Ratoath – with his first winner in five years. He only had to wait fourteen days for another one as – with Ashbourne jockey Andrew Lynch again in the plate – running off the same weight (10-6) she had three and a quarter lengths to spare over Code Dancer at Clonmel.

Speaking after the latter success Manning said: “I couldn’t believe she handled the softer ground so well, she won easier there than the last night. We might try and find something for her in Galway now”.
