Meath…0-11
Cavan…1-07
While the county’s lady footballers came up short in Ballinlough against Waterford yesterday, 24 hours earlier, Brendan Skehan’s county Camogie team had better luck over the road in Moylagh when they edged out Cavan in their National League Div. 2B encounter.
Meath face Derry in their final regulation game at Donaghmore/Ashbourne in what will be essentially a league semi final with the winners due to face Kerry in the final with the ladies from The Kingdom having already beaten both sides.
Leah Devine opened the scoring for the home side inside and with the reliable Aoife Minogue in fine form Meath – who lined out without the influential Grace Coleman – they established a lead of 0-08 to 0-03 by half time.
However, when Christina O’Reilly rattled the Meath in the first minute of the second half, it put matters right back in the melting pot. It was also at that point, though, that the vastly experienced Amy Gaffney marked her return to the side by slotting home what turned out to be a crucial score.
The Ratoath lady went very close giving the home side a goal of their own and, despite throwing everything bar the kitchen sink at the locals’ rearguard, the green and gold held on to tee up the clash with Derry perfectly.
