Wonder boost for Meath as Wall answers county’s call

It is said that whoever pulls the levers far away never closes one door without opening another. You won’t find anyone in the Royal County in a hurry to disagree with the theory today as news has emerged that Dunboyne’s own globe trotting star Vikki Wall has been drafted into Shane McCormack’s county panel ahead of Saturday’s All Ireland SFC quarter final against Kerry in Tralee.

Vikki Wall will be back in green and gold

Ironically, the classy citog’s last outing in the county colours was against the same opposition at the same venue this time last year. On a damp, depressing night when the locals brought an end to our two year reign as All Ireland Champions.

In the interim, much of the conjecture surrounding this Meath team has had its foundations rooted in the negative. Perhaps understandable given the defections there had been from the setup – players and management – but that in itself shouldn’t have been enough to see them written off as a bad side all of a sudden.

A reality underpinned by the fact that, despite all the turmoil and setbacks which have beset their environs in recent times they still managed to maintain their Div. 1 status in the Lidl Ladies NFL.

Doubtless, Vikki’s return will force the odds compilers to at least consider recaliberating their calculations, but, even if they still don’t give Meath a chance, it has never bothered us in the past and is unlikely to start doing so now.
