St Peter’s, Dunboyne…1-15 Drumree…2-07
Dunboyne came out on top in a closely fought Intermediate Camogie final against Drumree on Saturday in Dunganny, stating an eight point turnaround in doing so.
Dunboyne started well going into a four point lead in the early stages but were stopped in their tracks when Drumree hit the net twice to lead by four points at half time. Just to add another layer of intrigue to affairs, one of the ‘majors’ for those in the red and white hoops was scored by Aisling O’Connor, daughter of former Dunboyne dual player and ex Meath hurler Johnny who on this occasion was involved in the management of those trying to plot the downfall of his homestead.

After the break Dunboyne rallied and hit the net themselves midway through the second half and this started a flurry of points, Dunboyne outscored Drumree 1-10 to 0-4 in the second half.
This is the first adult championship win in camogie for Dunboyne since 2006. What’s more, the mechanics of it, decorated stars like Maeve Clince, Ellen Burke, Siobhan Synan and Sinead Hackett guiding those who drew inspiration from their own deeds along the way.
That, in turn, makes two hugely salient points. One, it stands testament to the immense work being done within the club at grassroots level with regard to the safeguarding and sustainability of camogie going forward. And secondly, that the aforementioned groundwork is already bear fruit as those who were once the queens of the small ball code in the county seek to inch their way back up the ladder.
Scorers for Dunboyne: S Hackett 0-5 , E Burke 0-5, A. O’Hara 1-1, L. Reilly (0-2), A. Kane and N. O’Connor 0-1 each.
Scorers for Drumree: A O’Connor 1-0, S Rattigan 1-1, L Griffin 0-6.
