The race for Richie concludes under a poignant cloud

Regardless of who wins Sunday’s Final of the Brady’s Skoda Meath Regional Football Championship in Pairc Tailteann, the Richie Barry Cup will be going to a new home. Whether Moyfenragh make up for last year’s reversal at the last hurdle against Bru Na Boinne or An Tuaiscairt get their names on the role of honour for the first time.

If Tadhg Boyle’s side from the north of the county do claim the trophy named in honour of a Walterstown GFC legend, it will be a victory veiled in deep poignance as there are a contingent of Drumconrath players on the panel managed by the Meath Hill clubman and, of course, their clubmate and friend Alan McCluskey was one of the five young people who lost their lives in last weekend’s tragedy.

May the all rest in eternal peace.
