Pragmatic realism for the greater good

With Sean Corrigan’s U-20 side due to begin their Leinster Championship campaign against Antrim in Kilmessan just 25 hours after his own team line out, Meath senior hurling manager Johnny Greville has taken the pragmatic approach of not starting those involved for Saturday’s final round NHL Div. 2 encounter with high flying Kerry in Trim.

Custodian Gavin King has been one of the finds of the National League campaign for Meath.

That means the Royals will start the day without Cathal Barron, Mark Leavy, Darren O’Higgins, Kyle Ennis, Fergal Flynn and Anthony Healy. O’Higgins, Leavy and Healy are listed among the subs but presumably they will stay there unless word filters through that Westmeath are in trouble against Mayo and promotion becomes a realistic possibility.

MEATH – G. King; J. Ennis, S. Geraghty, L. O’Connor; N. Conroy, D. Shine, S. Ennis; J. Cole, E. Donegan; D. Healy, T. Shine, L. Byrne; R. Fagan, S. Doyle, M. Cole.

SUBS – P. O’Brien, S. Coloe, J. Walsh, P. O’Hanrahan, K. Mulligan, C. Gilsenan, D. O’Higgins, M. Leavy, A. Healy.
