Cummins called to the bench for judgement day

Na Fianna’s Conor Cummins replaces Philip O’Brien as substitute goalkeeper in the only change to the matchday panel from that which rescued a dramatic draw against Derry a week ago ahead of tomorrow’s crunch encounter against Donegal in the final round of regulation fixtures in the Christy Ring Cup at O’Donnell Park in Letterkenny.

What the alteration also does is create the surely unique situation whereby Meath’s goalkeeper and reserve custodian are both from Na Fianna clubs, except one is in Meath (Cummins) and the other (Gavin King) plays his club hurling with the unit of the same name on Mobhi Road in Glasnevin.

Gavin King will be hoping to be a key player as Meath face off against Donegal for a place in the Christy Ring Cup Final

Other than that, it’s very much a case of leave well enough alone for Johnny Greville’s side, as the Shine twins, Daire and Tom, will be the pivots of the Royal County defence and attack respectively.

While the Royal County will also be hoping that the pacey Darren O’Higgins from Intermediate champions Kilskyre/Moylagh will give their attack the necessary edge to overcome the improving and potentially dangerous men from the northwest in what is basically a straight shootout for a place against Kerry in the final.

MEATH – G. King; J. Ennis, S. Geraghty, L. O’Connor; E. Donegan, D. Shine (Capt.), A. Healy; S. Coloe, K. Donnelly; D. Healy, L. Byrne, T. Shine; M. Cole, D. O’Higgins, M. Leavy.

SUBS – C. Cummins, C. Barron, D, Heffernan, F. Flynn, J. Cole, K. Ennis, N. Conroy, P. O’Hanrahan, S. Doyle, S. Whitty, S. Ennis.
