BREAKING NEWS: Clonmel off but Cheltenham clues possible across the water

This afternoon’s intended fixture at Clonmel has been abandonned after the Co Tipperary venue having failed an early morning inspection.

With the River Suir running quite close to the track, it’s not unusual for Powerstow Park to run into weather trouble at this time of year.

Thankfully, all three National Hunt fixtures in the UK do go ahead with the Paul Nicholls-trained Mick Pastor among those putiing their Cheltenham Festival credentials on the line.

Elsewhere, there is the curious arrangement of a Nicholls part-owned steed running in the care of the Loxton family. While not wanting to pigeon hole anybody, Venetia Williams-trained horses do tend to cope with arduous conditions better than most and the Hereford-based handler has several chances on the day
