Dunboyne… 2-14
St Colmcille’s… 0-12
Second half goals from Gavin McCoy and Stuart Lowndes put the seal on things as St Peter’s advanced to the last four in the race for the Keegan Cup following this entertaining encounter under the Ashbourne lights.
Scorer-in-chief Donal Lenihan got the ball rolling for the pre-match favourites and though he followed up pointing from a ‘Mark’ shortly afterwards, the men from beside the seaside slowly but surely worked their way into the contest with David Bell and James Conlon looking lively in attack. Meaning they had narrowed the deficit to two points by the first water break, Conor O’Donoghue’s side leading by 0-05 to 0-03.
For the remainder of the half, the black and amber outfit continued to display greater efficiency in front of goal as they led by 0-08 to 0-06 at the midway point. In truth, those in blue and navy could and perhaps should have been closer and were left to rue not being shortly afterwards.
The eventual winners notably upped the tempo on the restart as David McEntee, Conor Doran and Lenihan – who finished with a personal tally of 0-9 – were quite clinical in their finishing as their side embellishing their lead to 0-12 to 0-07 early in the second half.

Most of what is good about Dunboyne’s game is founded up the strength of their defence – particularly in the tackle – and the comfort their players seem to have on the ball. A feature of which tends to be their defenders driving out with the ball and it was after one such drive that Gavin McCoy drilled low past the impressive Andrew Beakey in the St Colmcille’s goal.
That ‘Major’ left the scoreboard reading 1-13 to 0-07 at the second half water break before half forward Lowndes raised another green flag sealing a meeting with either Donaghmore/Ashbourne or Gaeil Colmcille at the penultimate hurdle.
