Home comforts see Silver shine up well

Old sayings generally came about for a reason. ‘Horses for courses’ was definitely the most applicable one in this locality yesterday as the Mulvany’s Bar Syndicate enjoyed another good day in Fairyhouse when Sil Ver Klass was a cosy winner of the Handicap Chase on the card under Bryan Cooper.

The syndicate, made up of the owners and a group of patrons from the Fingal House in Dunboyne, have enjoyed success previously at some of the local tracks with both Mydor and Drakensberg.

The French bred 8-year-old has now won on the flat, over hurdles and in a chase and can actually be considered quite unlucky not to have a few more victories under his belt. As victorious trainer Tony Martin commented in the aftermath of this latest success “He’s been an unlucky horse, he’s had a lot of niggles and been second a lot of times. But we’re back rolling now again and he jumped well today”.

Martin’s final point is indeed the most important in the context of Saturday’s success as the gelding has had jumping issues. Some of which have not only precluded him from winning more races but also would explain why the chestnut has flitted between hurdles and the flat. The fact that he has now won a chase, you’d hope Martin’s charge would be able to kick on from here over the big ones.
