Our Wonder Wall tops the charts again

There’s a danger when paying homage to extremely talented people – sporting or otherwise – that eventually superlatives to deploy in relation to the achievements of these gifted individuals will run out. Yet they never do…

Such is the majesty of what they continually produce in their area of expertise that new ways of highlighting same simply have to be unearthed and pitched into battle. Think Messi or Ronaldo, LeBron James, AP McCoy or any other serially decorated exponents of their craft one cares to mention.

You can now add the name of Dunboyne’s Vikki Wall in similar realms after the brilliant and versatile footballer was crowned Meath Chronicle Sports Star of the Year at Friday night’s gala event in the Knightsbrook Hotel in Trim. Wall’s club and county sidekick Emma Duggan was shortlisted for the Young Sports Star accolade but that went to Ballinabrackey man Conor Ennis who played a pivotal part in Meath’s first All Ireland MFC title in 29 years.

Combined, Vikki and Emma won National League and All Ireland medals and All Star awards with the county team as well as spearheading Dunboyne’s defence of the Joe Breen Cup and achieving provincial success at club level. Not to mention a plethora of individual gongs picked up by the two of them also.

Lest it be thought that the hunger of these two terrific ladies – or that of their colleagues – may have been sated by their most remarkable of seasons in 2021 should be mindful that they arrived straight from training in Dunganny to the event in Trim.

Keep that list of superlatives handy!
