Boylesports Irish Grand National Shortlist

FARCLAS (SHANE FITZGERALD (5)/GORDON ELLIOTT)

Former Triumph Hurdle winner who, comparatively speaking, is a lightly raced sort. Not seen since finishing second behind stablemate (in the same ownership) RUN WILD FRED in the Troytown Chase at Navan last November. Raised 3lbs on foot of that run, but a proven stayer, Spring ground suits too.

SCREAMING COLOURS (JAMIE CODD/WILLIAM DURKAN)

Screaming Colours after victory in the Midlands National at Uttoxeter

Among the most experienced campaigners in the field, turns up in all the big handicaps and seldom leaves without prize money. Got a deserved victory in the Midlands National at Uttoxeter – had MISTER FOGPATCHES in behind. Any rain certainly wouldn’t diminish his likability am ounce, nor would the eye-catching booking of Jamie Codd.

MAX FLAMINGO (DENIS O’REGAN/FRANCIS CASEY)

This would undoubtedly be a victory for the romantics, who will ever forget the many memorable occasions involving the late, great Peter Casey at Fairyhouse? Here, his son fields a genuine contender who has been astutely campaigned and whose victory would leave very few dry eyes in Fairyhouse and many other places!

FULL TIME SCORE (RACHAEL BLACKMORE/HENRY DE BROMHEAD)

The Jones family of Dunsany are long time supporters of Irish racing and of Fairyhouse in particular. Indeed, the maroon and white striped silks were carried to victory in this great race via Klairon Davis, trained by Arthur Moore and ridden by Frannie Woods. This fella, though lightly campaigned, has been improving with every run and the fact that torrential rain is falling as this is being typed will draw smiles from Knockeen to BatterJohn Cross!
