Lally point completes Royal rally

Meath……0-09

Armagh……0-09

Eamonn Murray’s ladies showed the true character of champions when reeling in a classy Armagh outfit at Glennon Bros. Pearse Park. In so doing guaranteeing their passage through to the knockout stages of the race for the Brendan Martin Cup.

The Orchard County county had the better of the first half but, having had the backing of the considerable breeze behind them would surely have expected and needed to be further than two in front, 0-06 to 0-04 at the change of ends.

Aimee Mackin and Caitriona Hanlon continued to cause the Meath defence no end of problems and indeed were it not for Monica McGuirk again underlining her standing as the best netminder in the game, the green and gold grip on the most sought after prize in the game may have been reduced considerably.

Ireland’s best – Monica McGuirk

On the flipside of that coin, though, when the wonderful Duleek/Bellewstown lady’s heroics did keep the dream alive, it ignited her colleagues and, despite trailing by 0-05 to 0-09 with six minutes to go, their experience and proven ability enabled them to progress to just three steps from Heaven.

Courtesy of unanswered points from Stacey Grimes, Emma Duggan, substitute Kelsey Nesbitt and midfielder Orla Lally. When you can dig yourself out of a dodgy looking spot and know there’s still plenty in the tank it’s never a bad way to be.
