Ireland squad announced for FIBA U-20 European Championships

Ireland’s U-20 Basketball coach Paudie Fleming has announced his 12-man squad for the forthcoming European U-20 Championships. The event takes place in Tiblisi, Georgia, between July 15th and 24th.

There are five uncapped players in the intended travelling party – Samuel Alajiki, Robert Graham, Sean McCarthy, Jamie Muldowney and Jake Verschoyle. Jake is a former Dunboyne resident who has been making great progress in his career on the hardwood floor to date – having featured with the Eanna club during the most recent Super League season and previously represented the famed St Vincent’s at U-20 level.

In a major boost for Ireland’s chances in the forthcoming Championships, senior international CJ Fulton will be joining up with the squad. As Irish basketball pedigrees go, they don’t come much better than young Fulton. His dad Adrian and grandfather Danny were at the fulcrum of a great Star Of The Sea outfit when Irish club ball was at its zenith in the late 1980s and early ’90s.
