Three newcomers in Royal championship selection

Colm O’Rourke has handed Championship debuts to Adam O’Neill (Wolfe Tones), Michael Flood (St Brigid’s) and Sean Coffey (Ballinabrackey) in his first starting line up as Meath make their bow in the serious business of the season in Sunday’s Leinster SFC quarter final at Glenisk O’Connor Park, Tullamore.

Coffey was a member of a Meath team which won the Leinster MFC some years back and were subsequently beaten by Galway in an All Ireland semi final and – while he didn’t feature on the panel during the National League it is presumed he was involved with the Development Squad which played a number of fixtures throughout the Spring. Summerhill’s Ronan Ryan also returns after a lengthy absence to man the pivotal full back berth, while Donal Lenihan is rewarded for scoring 3-9 during the league with a start at top of the left.

Ballinabrackey’s Sean Coffey

Among the subs, the vastly experienced James McEntee makes a welcome return to the county colours while there’s a first call up for Ratoath’s Ben Wyer. Shane McEntee, Darragh Campion and Shane Walsh are among those missing due to long term injuries.
