If there’s a sound system being piped into the Meath Ladies dressing room, you suspect Willie Nelson would be atop the playlist from Spotify at presently – I can’t wait to be on the road again. I do not know the ins and outs of what ultimately led to Davy Nelson’s departure as their manager, nor is there a desire to, but you would be inclined to think all Jenny Rispin and her players will want to do now is get back out on the pitch.
As was previously stated in this space, the scenario for the team isn’t quite as doom-laden as was portrayed in the immediate aftermath of the upheaval. Essentially, they are starting from the exact same point as this time last season having lost the Leinster Final to Dublin. The only slight difference being that they didn’t win the National League this spring, but for a team going for their third All Ireland on the spin that won’t pre-empt any bouts of insomnia.
For the first instalment of Act II for her as interim boss, Rispin has made just one change in personnel but also a number of eyebrow raising positional alterations. Including naming Meadhbh Byrne and Emma Duggan as wing backs. Yes, you did read that correctly!
All of which means, in other surprise developments, Orlagh Lally is listed in the full forward line and Aoibhin Cleary drops to the bench.
