Same again for second half of Super Saturday

In what must be seen as a nod of satisfaction with the form and confidence in and within her team, Jenny Rispin has again named the same Meath team to take on Kerry in Saturday night’s All Ireland Ladies SFC quarter final in Tralee.

Emma Duggan evades the attention of two Kerry tacklers in last year’s All Ireland Final

Since the sides met in the Brendan Martin Cup Final 51 weeks ago, their fortunes have gone in polarising directions. There’s no way to dress up the fact that Meath have struggled this season – on and off the pitch.

Conversely, Kerry have been the greatest beneficiaries of the Royal County’s struggles so far this season, romping through the National League, taking said title by beating Galway. Furthermore, that Declan Quill and Darragh Long’s charges have been on a mission to right their wrongs of last season has been glaringly obvious.

However, as much as Kerry have improved since last season, Meath have not suddenly become a dire bad team overnight either. I remain wholly convinced there is at least one good performance in our All Ireland heroes.

Yes, it’s now or never for this season on that score, but, history has, on more than occasion, proven that Meath teams are at their most dangerous when written off. Where there’s life, there’s hope.

MEATH – M. McGuirk; A. Sheridan, MK Lynch, K. Newe; N. Gallogly, S. Ennis, E. Duggan; M. O’Shaughnessy, A. Minogue; M. Thynne, V. Wall, O. Lally; M. Byrne, S. Grimes, N. O’Sullivan.
