Eddie Howe and Newcastle United were left to rue the Champions League draw living up to the club’s nickname (The Magpies) after the black and white stripes were dealt the short end of the stick on their return to European football’s top competition.
The Geordies have been pitched into Group F, wherein they are domiciled alongside Paris Saint Germain, AC Milan and Borussia Dortmund. Manchester United, meanwhile, will be happy enough having drawn Copenhagen, Galatasary and Bayern Munich – to my mind the most overrated team in the competition. Simply because, as with PSG in France, they have an annual cakewalk to domestic honours in Germany.
On the opposite end of the scale to Newcastle, holders Manchester City are sure to be elated with their lot having been allotted RB Leipzig, Red Star Belgrade and Young Boys of Switzerland in Group G.
