O’Leary makes his point as Kilbride shut down Europe

Kilbride (Meath)…0-13

Amsterdam (Europe)…0-12

Davy O’Leary’s pointed penalty in the seventh minute of second half injury time got Kilbride over the line in their Leinster Club Championship debut after the near 70 minutes of action in Ashbourne were spent in strenuous negotiations with their EU counterparts.

Leo Turley’s team were quickly into their stride, as Adam Malone continued his scintillating form from the county final. Ably assisted by Andy and Conor McWeeney and Davy O’Leary, their combined industry enabled the green and red take a lead of 0-09 to 0-03 to the change of ends.

Kilbride’s Davy O’Leary sends another one goalward

Thanks to the innovative service provided by Clubber TV, it was great to be able to take in the action but what I’m not sure is whether there was much of a wind at play. One would actually hope there was owing to the manner in which the Dutch deputation controlled matters for the majority of the second half.

Such was there supremacy, indeed, that with Zack McGovern having been harshly red carded, the Meath champions actually found themselves in arrears as the clock went into the red.

Luckily for Kilbride, though, the obfuscating Mr Fedigan from Louth somehow managed to manufacture seven minutes of injury time. During which time Malone manufactured and executed an exquisite equaliser before a goalmouth scramble ensued following the resultant kick out being turned over.

To this viewer, it was unclear which Kilbride was infringed upon, but, just like his namesake in Genoa 33 years previously, Davy O’Leary did the needful with the last play of the game to ensure the green and red wave rolled on.
