MOYFENRAGH… 1-17
AN TUAISCEART… 1-10
Life taught me a long time ago never to judge a book by its cover. Sure my own journey about this big old ball is living proof of the futility of such a practice. Now read on…
With no disrespect intended to anybody, it would be ventured a few of the other combinations in the Brady’s Skoda Regional Football Championship would’ve been ahead of Moyfenragh in terms of people’s idea of likely winners of the Richie Barry Cup.
Tommy Hanley or his charges evidently didn’t read that perceived script. Not only because they pulled off an unlikely victory during the first week’s action but, even more so, owing to the flash of panash on display this time out also.
The Ballivor, Clonard, Longwood and Clan Na nGael combination dug and poured the foundations for this success early on. An Adam Gannon major putting them five ahead before Seamus Kenny’s side had registered at all.
When An Tuaisceart did get going, however, they put themselves right back into the mix via points from Gary Breslin and Dominic Yorke and a Dean Halpin goal. However, late white flag scores from Longwood’s Sean Coloe and Danny Dixon of Boardsmill left the Meath West amalgam 1-08 to 1-05 to the good with half the night’s work done.
Mind you, as good as their opening half output was, they really turned on the style after the break, when even replacement custodian Billy Hogan got among the scorers. Proving that it must be a trait in the Hogan household.

Now, two defeats from as many outings technically leaves the Nobber, Drumconrath, Meath Hill and Kilmainhamwood amalgamation with nothing to play for in the final round of group matches but thankfully that mindset hasn’t corroded the Regional Championships so, doubtless, players will be using every opportunity to impress at what are, essentially, trials for the Meath panel for 2024.
