It will be safely assumed that many throughout the county – and further afield – will have been struck by the above feelings as news emerged very suddenly that Meath senior Camogie manager Neil Cole was stepping down from his role.
Coming as it does onliy two games into their season, it is bound to have come as a huge jolt to the players as much as anybody else. However, in view of the fact that the Meath Camogie Board statement said the erstwhile coach was standing down for “Medical reasons” a large intake of perspective is required here.
The Rathmolyon native is one of the best small ball coaches around and has already crafted quite the coaching CV for himself with his adopted club Trim and the Cavan senior hurlers.
Neil’s brother, Gary, who himself has abundant managerial experience, will replace him for the remainder of the season with Tipperary man Tommy Moloney assisting him.
We wish Neil and family well and hope to see him back working his magic on a sideline somewhere very soon.
