BREAKING NEWS
In a historic development for St Peter’s, Dunboyne, Robbie Brennan becomes the third representative of the club to hold the position of Meath senior football manager following his appointment tonight (Wednesday) on a three year term.
The current Kilmacud Crokes and former Dunboyne manager – who also played for both clubs – of course follows in the footsteps of Sean Boylan and Andy McEntee. The latter, ironically, being the person to encourage Brennan to throw his lot in with St Peter’s nearly a quarter of a century ago.
That said, Meath’s new manager needs no introduction to the Meath scene either, with his dad, Pat, having Captained Wolfe Tones to a Meath IFC success in the mid 1970s.
The former full forward will have Tyrone All Ireland winner Joe McMahon and Monaghan man Martin Corey – who worked with his native county alongside his brother Vinny and also had a spell with Cavan – as part of his backroom team.

It had been expected that Bernard Flynn would be part of same, but there was no mention of the St Colmcille’s clubman in the press release from Meath Co Board shortly after 11pm. That said, I would expect more details of the backroom setup to emerge in due course.
In the end, Robbie Brennan’s appointment came as something of a shock because, right up to dinnertime on Wednesday a ticket comprising Lar Wall, Cathal O’Bric, Paul Garrigan and former Donegal star Mark McHugh was thought to be the clear favourite.
Mind you, the late, and ultimately decisive, twist in the tale – which made the Ring Of Kerry seem like a motorway – totally endorsed what the man whom Robbie will replace said to me recently – “Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see”!
