What you are about to read is like nothing ever produced in this space. But have there ever been folk like those referred to in the above headline? Think about how the circus surrounding Co Mayo family began. Then compare and contrast that to what it has morphed into.
Basically, the root of the issue is somebody – Enoch Burke – not agreeing with how another person – his erstwhile student – goes about their daily lives. So far, I don’t think even the Pope could find a problem with that much.
Where the contention does start, though, is when Person A not only doesn’t agree with Person B’s thought processes and methodology, they don’t respect their right to ‘be’ different, whilst at the same time expecting people to understand their very different view of life to what’s considered normal to the vast majority. You couldn’t make it up.
To draw on a very mundane example by way of comparison, a high percentage of people like vinegar on their chips. I on the other hand cannot abide the rancid stuff and begin to wretch at the mere scent of the putrid dirt. However, I would not forbid anyone else in my company or other patrons in a chipper from using it if they so wished. Nor indeed would I harangue the takeaway owner to the point of harassment trying to get them to insist patrons desist from using the dressing on their food.
Now to translate that into relevance here. The student in question did nothing wrong. Mr Burke may not agree with transgenderism but at the very least he should have – and been instructed to – respect the other person’s wishes and addressed them accordingly. To my mind, once he failed to do that, he was urinating into a gale. Whilst at the same time in a hole of his own digging and forgetting to put down the shovel.
Wilson’s Hospital School authorities were well entitled to terminate his employment presuming all other remedial avenues were exhausted. And there ‘s no reason for that not to be the case. Therefore, once Mr Burke was no longer a member of staff at WHS he had no business being on or in the vicinity of the property. Notwithstanding the distress and disruption his persistent loitering will have caused to staff, students and parents alike, at a very basic level, trespass is a crime. So his repeated instances of same – not to mention how he and the rest of his indoctrinated, brainwashed family have behaved in court rooms and other public places illustrates impeccably the opprobrium directed at the family and why it has been wholly justified. But here’s the thing, while Enoch has been, to a large extent, been the public face of everything the family have been involved in, one would not need to go to a certain optical store to ascertain that mammy Burke is the one stirring the pot, keeping them all – including the husband, who must be as delusional as is his spouse – in line and keeping the chaos bubbling in the cauldron.
Yet despite all of the above, and in spite of the fact that the family have brought all this presumably unwanted attention on themselves, there is another side to this story. While Enoch and the mother have obviously been the chief manure agitators during the debacle, it’s surely worth acknowledging that the entire family have been effected by it all.
Right, so, to some extent, the rest of the clan made their own bed and can duly lie in it. But again, you go back to the fact that the entire family weren’t as woven into the craziness to the extent that Enoch and Martina (the mother) are. So, as much as any inclination that the merest offering of contrition from Enoch should be enough to see him being able to attain employment somewhere.
But, recently, the thought occurred to me that, while Enoch, the mother and to a lesser extent the daughter Ammi are the ones most centrally involved in the nonsense, recent evidence suggests that the younger brother Simeon – at the very least – has been impinged in his efforts to attain employment since completing his studies.

Now, I wouldn’t have a bull’s notion about employment or anything pertaining to the legal profession, but, after a quick bit of research – open to correction – that the Law Library are obliged to provide, somebody, basically, for every new entrant legal professional to serve their apprenticeship under.
However, as per his YouTube video which I think was this day last week, Simeon has thus far been unable to find somebody under whom to serve his time. The Law Library have been no help to him with the matter, which in their case is surely a deriliction of duty? Nor, it seems, do they have any intention of rendering assistance to Mr S. Burke.
Now, and again if I’m wrong here one will gladly sit corrected, to the best of my knowledge, Simeon hasn’t been involved in any of the soap opera surrounding other members of his family. So therefore, it’s very easy to arrive at the conclusion that the reason no assistance has been forthcoming to the 25-year-old is a case of him being tarred with the same brush as the others.
If that was proven to be the case, I would wager a small lump that the aggrieved party would have fairly decent grounds for a case by way of discrimination. He’s not his brother or his brother’s keeper.
