Meath’s ‘Summer’ journeys mapped out

Competitively speaking, life under Robbie Brennan and Johnny Greville’s stewardship hasn’t even begun and already the bigger picture looms on the horizon, with Championship fixture schedules confirmed for all county teams bar the senior hurlers.

Brennan’s bunch will begin their odyssey in the ‘main’ competition at home to Carlow on March 6th. Should they clear that hurdle, a clash with Offaly awaits.

Gut instinct would be to quietly fancy our chances against the Faithful County. The only two caveats tempering that would be the presence of that auld nemesis Mickey Harte in the tricolour dugout along with team manager Declan Kelly.

Then, there’s the fact that, when last the sides met, those who were the hosts on the day emerged victorious by a point. A calamity promulgated by the worst 35 minutes championship football produced by a Meath team in decades.

Moving on, Cathal O’Bric’s U-20 footballers will begin the defence of their provincial title at home to Dublin on March 26th. Westmeath and Offaly make up the remainder of their group.

Our U-20 hurling team will begin their campaign in the Tier II competition against the Ulster representatives therein before tackling Westmeath.

Finally, the Minor hurlers’ championship throws in against Offaly on March 22nd while a week later, on March 29th, Joe Cowley’s crew enter the fray at home to Westmeath.
