At the time of typing, none of the National Leagues at inter county level nor the league or Cup competitions at club level have thrown in for the 2025 season, yet last night (Thursday) the draws were completed for the adult club championships in football and hurling. They are scheduled to commence in early August.
In football, current Keegan Cup holders Dunshaughlin will begin the defence of their title against potentially tricky Rathkenny while two other recently promoted teams, Trim and Meath Hill make up the rest of that particular division. Elsewhere, in something that’s becoming as regular as shops running out of bread in bad weather, neighbours Wolfe Tones and Simonstown Gaels will again get each other’s campaigns under way.
On the hurling side, Ratoath, who last season ended a 61 year wait for county glory, will immediately face a stern examination of their aspirations to hold onto the Jubilee Cup when facing perennial contenders Kiltale. Last autumn’s beaten finalists Trim will begin their latest quest to return to the top of the pile against their other near neighbours Dunderry. Newly promoted Navan O’Mahonys will make their bow back at the top table against Na Fianna.
