This is the first real test of Amorim’s metal

The above headline may seem a bit strange given some of what has gone on since the Portuguese the keys of the madhouse a couple of months back. In one sense, you might say things haven’t really changed that much. In that results have still been up and down like a human waste disposal organs. However, almost unnoticed the sideshow regarding Marcus Rashford’s ongoing petulance has no doubt still be exorcising the boss’s thoughts.

Even with that being the case, though, I’m not sure that which has seemingly been his nominated solution – that being the striker’s apparent re-integration to the setup at Old Trafford. Now, from the perspective of a Man Utd supporter, of course you’d like to see the 27-year-old stay at the club, but there comes a time when you begin to wonder is the individual about whom the brouhaha has been whipped up really worth all the attendent baggage.

Amorim: Tough task

It is for that reason I feel that how Amorim deals with  the Rashford issue could be the first real test of the boss’s metal since he took over the Red Devils. My reservations regarding Rashford are as above, but, if you let him go and are left with Rasmus Hojlund and Josh Zirkzee as your ‘main’ strikers, isn’t it an incredulous indictment of how far the club has fallen in terms of standing within the game.

But, when you’re dealing with a jackass like Jim Ratcliffe who – impossible though it might seem – is in the process of making a bigger balls of the club than the Blazers had already done.

In fairness, any appraisal of Manchester United at present must be done in the context of the chaotic circus that is the Transfer Window. However, this point was made previously in this space, that,  when you see top notch strikers like Harry Kane,Cody Gakpo Evan Ferguson, Jon Duran, Bryan Mbeuno and anybody else you care to mention, you’ll note none of them want to touch United with a barge pole.

Stark as it may seem, keeping Manchester United IN the Premier League and bringing a bit of stability to the place would be achievement enough for the 40-year-old coach. If he’s given sufficient time to do it.
