Moves pay off as Royals enjoy Orchard harvest

MEATH… 2-11

ARMAGH… 0-07

Anton O’Neill’s tenure as Meath senior camogie manager could scarcely have got away to a more perfect beginning than with this ten point victory in the opening round of the Very Ireland National League at Dunganny this (Saturday) afternoon.

Mention was made in the build up to this one that Kilmessan man had instigated a few eyebrow raising positional switches from what would, heretofore, have been considered the norm.

Namely, the re-location of Grace Coleman to full back while Maeve Clince made the eye catching switch from centre half back to full forward.

After a fairly mundane first half, the home side led by 0-05 to 0-02. However, the move of Amy Gaffney from wing back to midfield certainly put them up through the gears a bit.

Thereafter, goals from Clince and impressive substitute Isabel O’Connor from the Navan O’Mahonys club ensured the Anton O’Neill era got away to a pleasing and highly impressive beginning.

Trim’s Blaithnaid Hughes made her senior inter county debut against Armagh
