O’Bric unveils troops to defend our crown

Meath U-20 football manager Cathal O’Bric and his fellow mentors have announced the panel with whom they will go into battle and attempt to hold onto the provincial title they annexed at Louth’s expense in Parnell Park almost a year ago.

The Seamus Flood Cup holders will be able to call on six members of last year’s victorious panel – Eamonn Armstrong, Tadhg Martyn, Rian Stafford, Jamie Murphy, Seimi Byrne and John Harkin. In all, the defending provincial champions will work off a 35-player panel with 23 different clubs represented, Donaghmore/Ashbourne having the greatest representation with four.

As well as the six survivors, others to look out for include goalkeeper Braydon Colfer, Evan Kelly, Cian Commons, Ciaran O’Hare, John Gormley and Ben Corkery.

The lads get their campaign under way tomorrow (Wednesday) evening when taking on Dublin at Donaghmore/Ashbourne, with throw in slated for 7.30pm. Thereafter, they will be away to Westmeath on Wednesday next before concluding the group stages another week on at home to Offaly.
