Speculation is mounting that Republic Of Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher is on the verge of signing for Brentford just days after the Corkman collected a Premier League winners’ medal at Anfield with Liverpool.
The Irish stopper has made no secret of his desire to leave the now champions in order to get more first team football. Understandable, I suppose, it comes down to this: are you happy sitting on the bench accumulating medals, or do you want to be on the field earning your crust and proving your worth.

I’ll be honest, I can see merit in both methods, but, look, in Kelleher’s position the desire to actually get first team football is wholly understandable. And from that perspective, Brentford would certainly represent landing on his feet for Kelleher. Not only because Thomas Frank is one of the most affable and progressive managers in football, but, even more so, that his team fit the second adjective in the style of football they play and the fact that their profile within the game is on the ascend.

Ironically, though, that very burgeoning profile may in fact create a difficulty for The Bees in trying to hold onto their top performers like Yoane Wissa and Bryan Mbeuno and Justin Kluivert.
Another Brentford player being linked with a move away from the Vitality Stadium is goalkeeper Mark Flekken who is apparently the subject of interest from Bayer Leverkusen, which would of course create a vacancy between the Bees’ posts. Hence their interest in acquiring the services of Kelleher.
Of course, another Irish player on the lookout for a new club, seemingly, is our very own Josh Keeley who posted what in essence appeared to be a goodbye message Leyton Orient fans on Instagram in the aftermath of last weekend’s gut wrenching defeat in the League One play off final against Charlton Athletic at Wembley Stadium.

Thus, not only are the two lads potentially on the lookout for new employers, they are also at the top of the queue in competing for the number one jersey in the Republic Of Ireland senior team. Interesting times ahead.
