On Sunday week, the 14th of September, the Irish Wheelchair Association are running their big fundraiser, the Run and Roll’. It’s a massive occasion for the Association and your support can make an incalculable difference to the clients their people look after.
IWA staff member and Personal Assistant (PA) Ollie Carey tells me in advance of the event –“This fundraiser gives us , and more importantly the members we support, the opportunity to do various activities that they wouldn’t normally be able to do”.
Some of the activities for service users your help and support would enable us to stage would include “Overnights for 3 or 4 days to Blackpool, EuroDisney, the UK, day trips to the UK and many other excursions that we wouldn’t be able to do. I have taken part in a week long trip to Blackpool with the guys , and some of them do be in tears cause without the IWA and the support we get, these events wouldn’t happen, and the lads have told me that it takes them out of a dark place that can become all to familiar, the break from their norm is badly needed”.
All too well can I vouch for how familiar that dark places can become and, more importantly, how difficult it can be to get yourself out of those dark places.
