Dunboyne survive Stamullen stumble

St Peter’s, Dunboyne… 1-07

St Patrick’s… 0-09

Dunboyne had to dig in to ensure they came away with all the spoils against their obdurate opponents in this U-19 FC opening round encounter at Stamullen on Friday night.

Sean Delaney – seen here in action with the Meath Minor footballers – continued his fine season on Friday night

An Eoghan McDonald goal had got the 2023 MFC winners away to a flying start, and it was that which kept those who were so cruelly denied in this year’s U-17 decider to the good by 1-02 to 0-02 at the midway point.

The close manner of the exchanges continued throughout the second half until a late Sean Delaney effort squeezed the visitors home by the narrowest of margins.

St Peter’s – J. McCormack; C. Tobin, A. Howlin, P. Dempsey; A. Norman, C. McCormack, J. Doyle; E. McCrudden (0-3, 1F, 1 ’45), E. McDonald (1-0); H. Healy, J. Lonergan, C. Felle (0-1); C. Murphy, S. McNulty, S. Delaney (0-3, 1x2PT)

Subs – R. Kelly for Norman, T. Brennan for McNulty, J. Felle for Murphy, E. Nuzum for C. Felle, C. Rohan for Kelly (injured).
