MEATH… 3-15
LONGFORD… 0-12
Meath repeated their victory of 12 months ago over Longford in Newtownforbes – the home of Clonguish GAA – to complete the group stages of their Dalata Hotels Group Leinster U-20 FC campaign unbeaten.
The upshot of which is that they stay on the main road and thereby the shortest route. Straight through to the provincial semi finals.
Now, on the face of it, you’d be forgiven for considering 3-15 a fine total for Cathal O’Bric’s team to have run up. Which it undoubtedly was. Though I suspect what will have An Muinteoir twirling his metre stick is that they left as much again out there with their profligacy in front of goal.
Still, with goals from the burgeoning Colin Scanlon and his Seneschalstown colleague Cian Commons and points from Eoin McCrudden, John Harkin, Ben Corkery (two) and Cormac O’Donoghue the visitors led by 2-06 to 0-03 at the break.

The visitors maintained their general control of affairs thereafter, though in spurts Longford displayed some of the class within their panel which enabled them to capture the Leinster MFC last year.
Yet eventually, Meath’s movers and shakers got their eye in as Cormac Smith, Paul Hennessey, Stephen Cahill, Harkin, Commons and the introduced Sean Delaney put the contest beyond doubt before another sub, Adam Ducie, bagged his third goal of the season.
