League champions unchanged

Hardly surprisingly, Robbie Brennan has named an unchanged side from that which defeated Cork in the NFL Div. 2 Final ahead of Sunday’s Leinster SFC opener against Westmeath in Tullamore.

That means, though, that there are eight alterations from the team which lost out to Donegal in last year’s All Ireland semi final.

However, as a result of same, Sunday will be a very proud day for St Peter’s Dunboyne as one of the spared seven, our own Seamus Lavin, will make a 70th appearance in green and gold.

Personally speaking, if there is one tiny fragment of disappointment, it lies in the fact that the subs bench also remains unchanged because (a) it means that players such as Ronan Jones and Mat Costello and Jack Kinlough are not yet ready for action and (b) out of cognisance of the raft of good footballers not even making the matchday 26.

Of course, the latter is actually a fantastic ‘problem’ to have, but my only hope is that lads will be patient enough to hang in there. It always saddens me to see players walk away from team setups but times are different now.
