Moore the merrier as Valley topple Tuaisceart

BOYNE VALLEY… 0-16

AN TUAISCEART… 0-14

Rathkenny custodian Finn Moore was the toast of the River Boyne on Sunday evening after his late long range free guided the ensemble representing the east of the county – and two time winners – past the current holders of the Richie Barry Cup at Devenish Park on Sunday afternoon.

The eventual winners got away to a blistering start thanks to scores from Sean Tyrell of Donaghmore/Ashbourne (three) and David Bell before Daire Shine the talented Brian O’Reilly of St Michael’s eventually got the north county outfit up and running.

The ebb and flow nature of the contest as firstly Dylan Keating of Seneschalstown put those managed by his clubmate Joe Cowley back in front. Then it was Tadhg Boyle’s team’s turn to have a spell of dominance as Hughie Corcoran (two) and Rian McConnell gave the umpires a workout.

Once again though, the Valley men riposted as Moore drew his first orange flag and Keating tacked on another white and another from Castletown’s Killian Price at the other end meant those chasing their third Regional Championship title just about held sway, 0-09 to 0-08, at the change of ends.

McConnell knotted matters again soon after the restart. Corcoran then came to the fore in a very telling way, landing three points on the spin before Oldcastle’s Dylan Garrigan drove forward from corner back to point and it appeared the first attempt Boyle’s boys made at defending their crown was going to be a winning one.

However, it is surely clear by now that those from closest to where the county river flows have a penchant for buying into the intricacies of the narrative behind the Regional Championship. Once again they demonstrated as such as that more decided to ride on up the field and send the pigskin on a voyage over the bar from downtown.

Just to make absolutely sure, the brilliant Bell chimed in with his fourth point of the afternoon and, though the rapidly burgeoning Shane McEnery of Simonstown Gaels pointed at the other end, Cowley’s crew closed ranks and began with the win.
