Dunboyne’s Keeley swaps his Spurs for a taste of the Orient

It’s highly unlikely Josh Keeley has ever been clad in spurs or a Stetson, but even if he has been, he may hang them up for the time being. The big Dunboyne goalkeeper having marked another career step when being loaned out by Tottenham to League One outfit Leyton Orient for the remainder of the season.

Perhaps the following comes from being in this profession officially for a quarter of a century, but, it takes very little for an at best sceptical or at worst cynical view of whatever may be going on – or not – as the case may be at a given time, to be formed.

Herein is a classic case in point. The Republic Of Ireland U-21 stopper spent last season on loan at non league Barnett and such was the impression the Dunboyne lad made during his spell in the National League that when he returned to his ‘parent’ club for pre season, he was afforded a quite considerable contract extension.

All good then? Not quite. No sooner had the big ‘keeper the long term commitment to Ange Postecoglu’s side signed and sealed when he was shifted out to the O’s on another season long loan deal. Again, you’re probably wondering what’s the problem, especially given that Orient are two divisions above where Barnett currently reside in the football world.

The question, though, is for how long will that be the case? Because judging by the way the Brisbane Road outfit have begun the current campaign, the former GAA wing forward will have his hands full trying to keep Football League action at the Gaughan Group Stadium.

Deal Done – Josh Keeley signs on the dotted line for Orient.

Not that that should bother him too much presently. As this piece is being written, he’s enjoying a short break at home here in the parish. New contract in the bag, new club for the season and International duty awaits. Lads have had worse weeks.
