Meath U-16 Football manager Paul McManus has named a strong lineup ahead of Sunday evening’s Gerry Reilly Cup Final against Cavan in Millbrook, the home of host club Oldcastle GFC. The game throws in at 7pm with the Gerry Reilly Shield Final between Louth and Clare taking place at the same venue at Noon on Saturday.
The Royal County will include Ben Brown, Harry Keating and Dara Loughran, all of whom featured for Trevor Giles’ Meath Minor side this year. The latter’s son, Oisin, is sure to intrigue curious onlookers, lining out in his dad’s No. 10 jersey (no information on sleeve length yet!).
Seriously though, the Skryne youngster forms part of a potent looking attack which also includes Loughran, Darragh Harkin – younger brother of Meath U-20 star John – Eanna Kenny (son of Seamus) and his Simonstown Gaels clubmate Joe Kearney, whose dad Ned won an All Ireland MFC in 1992, represented the county at all levels and is currently building quite the CV for himself as a coach.

The Gerry Reilly Cup is an annual U-16 inter county competition played in memory of a former Oldcastle player who tragically lost his life towards the end of 1987. From humble beginnings, it has become the premier competition in that age bracket and a proven audition stage for aspiring county minors.
It is a testament to the work done by the Oldcastle club and the Meath Minor Football Board – or whatever it’s called now – that Gerry’s cup is now a nationwide attraction, as can be seen with Cavan, Louth, Mayo, Dublin and Westmeath numbering among past winners.

FOGRA II: Meath will be attempting to complete a notable double at U-16 level in the space of a few days with the extended panel having annexed the Tedd Webb Shield on Wednesday evening by defeating Dublin 2-10 to 0-11 at Devenish Park (Dunganny).
