One of the great things about having wide ranging sporting interests is that it is possible to build an entire calendar of action with which to keep ones mind occupied throughout the year. The real bonus being that these things are generally cyclical in nature.
In other words, as one event or season in one sporting code are winding down, others are just revving up. If you’ve been taking in content in this space for any length of time you’ll know the disdain which is felt in this seat towards the vile split season in the GAA.
The only saving grace for a lad’s mental stability is that, at least the delusional destruction self inflicted on the GAA can be at least mentally parked as other codes such as National Hunt racing, Rugby, American Football and, most especially, basketball.

I do often ponder how survival was achieved prior to being able to record content directly to the television because, with the best will in the world, not if you owned the old AGFA factory – if it still exists – would you have enough blank tape space to enable you to keep properly up to speed with the 82 game-plus NBA season.
Thanks to the advent of Sky+, SkyQ and other such services, though, allows everything to be readily available. Either live if a bad night with insomnia is on the horizon or by way of catching up on the previous night’s action the following day. Which in itself becomes a vital means by which to sanely negotiate the long wintry days and nights.
Which is why the fixture list attached above will be a vital component in circumnavigating the weeks and months ahead until the National Leagues – or, hopefully, the pre-season Cup competitions – get underway. And indeed well beyond that. The action tips off (or throws in if that sits better with you) at 8pm Irish time tomorrow night on Sky Sports.
