A WEEK OF BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS IN MEATH
This corner has an admission to make – the current incarnation of the Split Season has been a lot easier on the mental health than was the case with its maiden voyage. Why exactly that is can’t actually be defined but, of late, the processes of putting things in place for next year has been a huge help.
On that score, it’s been a week of big announcements in Meath GAA circles. The most significant of which was the appointment of Neil Cole as manager of the Meath senior camogie team. A member of the famed Cole clan from Rathmolyon, he has guided Trim to numerous titles at various levels and most recently been in charge of the Cavan senior hurlers.
CICO SPORTS WE ARE MEATH ALL STARS
Fantastic to see that the We Are Meath football All Stars, in conjuction with Cico Sports, have become an annual fixture on the local sporting calendar. The We Are Meath podcast has been revolutionary in terms of local GAA coverage.
The brainchild of Cortown’s Davy Rispin and Mickey Brennan of Simonstown Gaels, We Are Meath is as near to a fly on the wall documentary as could be.
Furthermore, their All Stars initiative amounts to a revival of the old Green Star awards. It is believed that those selected at last Saturday night’s function at the Blackwater Inn in Kells will take on a Meath selection at a later date.
MEATH CO BOARD AWARD WINNERS

CROKER CORONATION THEN HANG ‘EM UP KATIE
It was Mike Tyson who once observed the following – “Everyone has a plan ’til they get punched in the face”. Lord knows he put the theory to the test often enough. But evidently nobody ever showed the quote to Chantalle Cameron.
The typically verbose, cocky British fighter spent the week leading up to her rematch with Katie Taylor telling anybody who’d listen that she was going to do x, y and z to the great Bray lady.
It is said that Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned. But even without the trash talk putting an extra gallon or two of diesel on the fire, you can be sure the 37-year-old has been smarting herself and awaiting redemption ever since Cameron upskuttled her hitherto unbeaten record.
Temptation might be to wonder what exactly motivates the former Olympic Champion to keep going. Gut feelings suggests it may a desire to dance her last dance at Croke Park and then hang up the gloves.
Come on Eddie Hearne, Brian Peters, Jarlath Burns, Peter McKenna or whoever else can, make it happen!
