Dunboyne native and former Irish Amateur Boxing Champion Kevin Gilligan puts the Amanda Serrano camp back in their box at the Press Conference before they prepare to take on our own Katie Taylor on the undercard as Mike Tyson squares up to social media motor mouth Jake Paul.
As Serrano’s camp were bleating on in contravention of the dictum that self praise is no praise, Gilligan (‘representing’ the Meath Chronicle!) reminded all present that two of the judges had scored the original bout in Taylor’s favour!
Naturally, her opponent’s entourage got in an awful kerfuffle that somebody should have the temerity to question their star. On the other hand, the legendary Bray lady grinned from ear to ear at the sight of a familiar face and somebody very much in her corner!
Kevin is the son of Eamonn and the late Eimear Gilligan, with the family being at the epicentre of the establishment and flourishing of a highly successful amateur boxing club in Dunboyne, Co Meath.
Younger brother Eamonn J. has also made his mark in his particular weight brackett. Though both lads are currently based overseas – in Texas and Vietnam respectively – home, and specificaly between the ropes is where their heart lies.
We can only hope Iron Mike puts his own prophecy into practice – we’ll see what sort of plan the ‘influencer’ (pass the sick bucket) has when he gets punched in the face!
