Shiel reveals early season selection

New Meath Senior Camogie manager Stephen Shiel has announced his panel for the early part of the season. Shiel’s stars will be in competitive action for the first time over the weekend of 14/15 February when they take on Westmeath at a Lake County venue.

Na Fianna’s Aoife Carey will again be key Meath’s ambitions

They will also face Carlow, Kerry, Derry and Laois in Div. 2A of the Very Ireland National League. Not surprisingly, five-in-a-row chasing county champions Na Fianna lead the way in terms of representative numbers with seven, while Intermediate queenpins Dunboyne have three aboard. Rising dual star Anna Kane joining the established duo of Maeve Clince and Ellen Burke.

Elsewhere, also included is Trim’s Blathnaid Hughes – daughter of former Dunboyne footballer Noel, who once marked Peter Canavan in an All Ireland U-21 FC semi final. In all, 12 clubs are represented, while the panel will also have a similar number of mentors as the aforementioned figure.

Trim’s Blathnaid Hughes will be among the younger players hoping to make their mark during the coming season.
