Primal instincts drive Meath to another Leinster Final
MEATH…2-14 DUBLIN…2-08 I was going to use another word at the very beginning of the above headline but for one thing the young men involved would be too young to get the reference and for another, it may not be the right side of the watershed. Suffice to say, the sight of and wholesome challenge…

The most important grade is being treated like dirt
In writing the piece in tribute to the late Mick O’Brien of Walterstown and Meath in this space a short time ago, mention was made of the revolutionary work carried out by the legendary schoolteacher with regard to organising underage football within his beloved Blacks. Now read on… In all the wholly deserved pieces produced…

Mick O’Brien – Walterstown and Meath GAA – RIP
With profound sadness last Tuesday evening I learned of the passing of the great Mick O’Brien, the Godfather of Walterstown GFC and Meath GAA. There could be no better war to describe the octogenarian legend. For is not the role of a godparent to step in in times of strife when things go wrong? That…

Years come and go but there’s one question there’s still no answer to
It is said that fair play is good sport. So doesn’t it stand to reason that unfair play makes for bad sport? But where does reality stop and unfairness begin? With the exception of the hooter in its current form, there’s no debating that the reforms brought in by Jim Gavin’s committee have transformed football…

Help! I agree with Gary Neville
Do not adjust your sets. This is not a drill. But nor does it change the fact that he was one of the biggest imposters to ever milk a living out of Old Trafford. Just as he is currently doing with Sky Sports. In a playing sense, such were his underwhelming contributions, that my late…

A time of opportunity rather than a problem
Transition. Movement. Change. Difference. Essentially, they all describe the same thing. But can have seismically different meanings for different people. Indeed, they can have vastly fluctuating connotations for the same people in differing circumstances. Even for yours truly. For instance, the notion of doing Transition Year after completing the Junior Cert. appeared to be a…

Meath go through the gears in second half to see off dogged Laois
MEATH… 3-12 LAOIS… 0-10 The final score states there were 11 points between the sides at the end, but don’t fooled. Inclination might be to think that this was a fairly routine night’s work for Cathal O’Bric’s team, but it was anything but. Now, as if to directly contradict the above statement, Meath never looked…

Classism stretches beyond the rancid GPA
The first word in the above headline is a substitute for the original occupant of that slot. Had it been left in, though, the keyboard warriors would’ve been all over yours truly like pepper sauce on a steak. Blurting about hypocrisy and such. Nothing will ever alter my view that senior inter county players should…

A giant step on a journey still in its early stages
MEATH…2-22 OFFALY…0-18 This day seven years ago was obviously Easter Sunday. The day Meath defeated Fermanagh in Pairc Tailteann to seal a return to Div. 1 of the National Football League. The reason I know it had to be the chocolate holiday is because I was in Fairyhouse getting updates via WhatsApp as Andy McEntee…

Willie Lynskey 1926-2026 – A Tribute
With a quiet degree of confidence, it will be put that, with the passing of Mrs Annie McEnroe and her late husband Johnny, Mr William Lynskey assumed the mantle of being the oldest resident the locality. Alas, the title is up for awarding once again as news emerged on Monday evening that gentleman Willie will…
